Usually, when people think that rehabilitation for soldiers with amputations is about physical exercises, prosthetics, physiotherapy, and constant pain, they’re right—but only partly. Physical rehabilitation is only the first step on the road back to a full life for someone who has endured severe physical pain and the loss of a part of their body.
Social, psychological, and emotional rehabilitation are important and inseparable parts of the long rehabilitation process.
Hippotherapy, cycling rehabilitation, attending concerts, excursions, bowling, kayaking, hiking in the mountains, and many other projects organized by us—the volunteers of the “With an Angel on a Shoulder” Charitable Foundation — are part of the social and emotional recovery of defenders undergoing rehabilitation at the State Noncommercial Enterprise Center Of Complex Rehabilitation "HALYCHYNA"
The soldiers’ smiles, their sincere conversations with their brothers-in-arms and volunteers, their shining eyes—these are the best thanks for us. We understand that with every smile, every kind word, and every meter conquered on the cycling track, a wall comes down—a wall of isolation, pain, and despair.
They begin to rejoice in life, to enjoy life, and to find themselves again.
And we—we give moments that help restore strength and faith in people, and that is exactly what inspires us to keep going.
