From January 12 to 22, the first charity and rehabilitation project "Titans under Sails" took place in Ukraine, and it was 100% implemented!
The project participants were 10 military personnel with amputations on prostheses, veterans of the Russian-Ukrainian war and 7 volunteers. Together with the captains on two sailing catamarans, they sailed 170 miles across the Atlantic Ocean between the islands of Tenerife, La Gomera and La Palma.
On each of these islands, they learned something new, shared everyday life and communicated. The project participants visited interesting places, such as the observatory at an altitude of 2400 m above sea level, the Los Gigantes cliffs, the Teide volcano and the largest and one of the most famous trees on the island of Tenerife - the Dragon Tree, the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the island of La Palma and many other interesting things that the Canary Islands can introduce.
“It seems that together we were able to create a space in which dreams come true. Volodya caught maki-maki - the fish he dreamed of. Yani and Dmytro organized an impromptu wedding on a yacht. The girls danced polkas on the pier. Ingus became a sponsor of good mood for everyone. Our Canary community brought large saucepan of borscht to the guys… And my dream is for this wonderful initiative to find funds to give an adventure to other titans,” said tour participant Yurko Vovkogon, a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war (fought in 2014-15 as part of the Right Sector DUK and served in 2022-23 in the 80th ODShBr).
“The ocean, stretching to the very horizon, seemed to wash away the burden of the past from my heart with every wave, and its majestic element filled me with energy and peace. The mountains, proudly rising upward, reminded me of strength and endurance, inspiring me to never give up. This contrast between the depth of the water and the height of the rocks reflected the emotions I felt during the trip: from calmness to true admiration. These landscapes reminded me of how beautiful and boundless life can be,” shared tour participant Mykola Gatala, a veteran of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Bilinsky.
The Titans Under Sails project is organized by our foundation, the travel company Korona-Yachting, and the youth organization YMCA Lviv with the assistance of the Department of Youth and Sports of the Lviv Regional State Administration for military amputees undergoing rehabilitation in various European countries and in Ukraine.
A huge thank you also to the entire sailing community of this project, who helped the military personnel completely reboot (emotionally, physically, psychologically, and socially) on the ocean waves under the wind and warm sun!!!
The project was a success, we are very happy and plan to continue the rehabilitation of the military personnel in this format.
We invite benefactors, patrons, and just good people to organize the next sailing rehabilitation tours!
