“I’m taking the steps upon myself. I ask you to take their strength upon yourself.
One day.
Life doesn’t pass in years.
It passes in days.
Three hundred sixty-five times a year we receive the same gift — twenty-four hours.
Some people live them in a rush.
Some put it off until tomorrow.
And some try to fill them with meaning.
My day this year will be different.
The day of my 58th birthday won’t pass at a festive table.
It will begin at night.
Then dawn will come.
Then day.
Then night again.
And all these twenty-four hours I will be walking.
Not because I want to prove something to myself.
But because there are people beside us for whom one step is already a small victory. People who, after amputations or returning from captivity, learn to live anew every day.
If my one day helps someone take one more step forward — it will not have been lived in vain.
So this year, instead of birthday gifts, I’m asking for something else.
Walk this day with me.
Not necessarily at a stadium.
You can take a few steps on your street.
You can take them in your thoughts.
Or you can take them with your donation.
